Yet another remake this year but this isn’t just another title, the iconic RPG Diablo 2 is getting a fresh lick of the paint and all the hardcore 2000s gamers are already expecting too much from the game. Diablo 2 is the longest-running and most accomplished dungeon crawler and that is for many reasons. The fans have long asked Blizzard to remake and remaster the game. It now seems that their prayers have finally been answered. With recent developments regarding the game, my gut tells me that every single expectation is going to be met as the game is in safe hands if we are talking about the developers. Here is all that we know about the title so far and whether or not you should play the game.

Remember Warcraft 3, Refunded?

The game is being developed by Vicarious Visions, who have been a big success in recent times. Remaking games like Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1&2 and the Crash Bandicoot N-Sane Trilogy. Having said all that, the company made a big mess of their remaster of Warcraft III for which they got the stick alongside Blizzard. By all appearances, the company has learned a lot from its mistakes, and Diablo 2: Resurrected isn’t going to be another mess for sure. We can say that because the developers aren’t really trying to make a new game from scratch that just looks like Diablo 2, it actually is Diablo 2 as Rod Fergusson has constantly been reminding us.

The remaster is going to retain all the core elements of the game and stay faithful to its originality. Elements like voices of characters, classes of the game, the skill system, and many other core elements are to stay the same along with a lot of new features. Only the outdated two-dimensional graphics are to be replaced with full modern visuals. But the game is still going to include the original graphics so players can instantly switch both visuals on a whim. This preserves the nostalgia that many of us crave to experience with a little touch of freshness. The developers have promised to preserve even the flaws of the original game to make it as “original” as possible.

The Return To Hell

The developers have been teasing the players with the release date, but it’s now finally confirmed and the game will hit the stores on September 23, 2021. And the game isn’t really expensive either, with recent upcoming titles going over 50 bucks, you can get Diablo 2: Resurrected for only $40. And for a game of this quality, I would be willing to pay even $400 without a second thought.

Despite being almost 2 decades old, the actual game still holds its sky-high reputation and influence, to screw that up would be a nightmare that no one will ever be able to forget. But with all the originality of the game retained with a little freshness of visuals and sound added to it, it totally sounds like a perfect mix to win it for blizzard for sure.

Verdict

Now to conclude this, after trying out the alpha version of the game; I think it profoundly shows off its 20 years old roots and retains the core elements that once made the game stand out, as they still do the same quite perfectly. There are some substantial weak spots that cause a bit of frustration for sure but even the alpha version has been so promising that I wouldn’t think twice before buying the game.

Yes, I’m coming back to Hell for you, Diablo.
