D2R — One Month After

The decade-old fan favourite classic action RPG title Diablo 2 from Blizzard Entertainment, just got RESURRECTED and fans can’t seem to have enough of the game. It’s already been a month since the game first hit the gaming market and stunned us with some awesome looking graphics!

Blizzard’s intentions with this remastered version of the game have been pretty clear from the start, “giving Diablo lovers the same classic gameplay experience that they loved so much wrapped in a true 4K display with new monsters, heroes, items, spells and so much more”. And while the buzz around D2R shows how much-excited everyone is to try out their favourite title, it hasn’t been a smooth ride right from its release. Diablo 2 Remastered just like any other game, has its own fair share of issues that Blizzard seems to be having a hard time dealing with.

Disappointments

One of the MOST prominent issues with the game is server queuing. It’s been a month and still, a LOT of players can’t seem to join the game due to server overloading. And while the PC version has been somewhat patched, which makes it just A TINY bit easier for the players to join the server, the consoles didn’t receive any patches for a long time until now and that was due to the strict checking and certification policies of Microsoft for Xbox consoles and Sony for Playstations.

But turns out Blizzard’s added some “extra steps” for the players before they could join a server with each joining or creating an attempt making players wait at least a minute before they could try again. And while it might not sound too long of a wait, if you have to constantly wait for 1 minute when you put in the wrong info or find the server full, it starts to get a lot more frustrating.

But these extra measures have just been put there to reduce some strain on the servers and stop them from getting clogged up due to the immense number of players trying to join the game at the same time. However, the players are not happy with the current state of the game, some players have even found themselves waiting for 5–6 hours just to join the server and getting kicked out because the game crashed. Some players have even suggested that Blizzard should let them play the game in offline mode, while it’s looking to find some room in the server and have them switch to online mode when they are ready to join the game.

Silver Linings

Apart from the server issues, Diablo 2 Remastered has been doing exceptionally well, with a LOT of popular game streamers streaming the game with hundreds of thousands of viewers watching their live streams. The number of players keeps growing each and every week, with old Diablo veterans returning to get the sense of Nostalgia and new players trying to find some classic RPG experience. With Diablo 4 nowhere in sight, D2R is Blizzard’s only lifeline right now to keep the Diablo franchise alive.

There is surely something for everyone in the game. You just need to find your way into the server first.

But I’m probably washing my hands off game remakes for good.
